Duchess Park Newmarket

Duchess Park Newmarket, enjoys a focus on preserving native habitats and promoting biodiversity within the landscape that surrounds the homes within the estate. The beautiful environment includes wild flower meadows, natural woodland and nature friendly hedgerows.

The Management Committee of Duchess Park is made up of Directors who are also residents of the estate, supported by an independent land agent company who manage the financial affairs on behalf of the Committee and owners. Early in the springtime the landscape maintenance contractors carried out the first cut of the meadows. The areas containing wild cowslips were carefully mown to allow these wonderfull plants to flourish and add to the biodiversity. As the summer progressed the meadows have flourished with further wild flowers. However, the summer drought has brought much of the growth to a standstill.  A follow-up mowing of the meadows took place in August, ahead of schedule, in order to minimise the fire risk posed by the dry grasses and wild flower plants. The pathways have been regularly mown to enable residents to wander the meadows and woodland. The hedegrows have been allowed to grow in order to give shelter to nestingbirds and hedgehogs.  This practice is in line with current expectations by government on land owners. Once the risk of disturbing birds has passed the hedgerows will be cut back in preparation for the autumn.  The mature trees at the entrance to Meadow Lane from Duchess Drive are the responibility of the estate.  Following a tree survey, the unsafe branches were cut back during July. Many of the fences across the estate are reaching an age when replacement is necessary.  The Committee has commisioned surveys to establish a fence maintenance programme going forward. Don't be surprised when you see fence work taking place on site.
